Schenker’s RFID container security pilot will also include a test of electronic seals that record container door openings and closings
Schenker tests RFID security
Deutsche Bahn logistics subsidiary Schenker has embarked on a test of RFID technology that aims to improve the security of freight containers. The company installed RFID-equipped security tags on ten containers in Hamburg, Germany, and they will be used on a freight service between Hamburg and Hong Kong. The tags will be registered whenever the container changes hands in the supply chain, thereby recording points where cargo liability also changes hands. The test will begin with Schenker’s partners at port loading stations, and then expand to the terminals themselves.
