USV debuts for USN and USCG
BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin and Rafael Armament Development Authority Ltd. have brought the Protector Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) to the U.S., where it is to be demonstrated to the US Navy, Coast Guard and other maritime security agencies. The remote-control USV is equipped with a stabilized mini-Typhoon weapon system, cameras, radar equipment and electro optics. Capable of highly autonomous action, the Predator can successfully operate with general guidance from a commander and operator in port, riverine and coastal maritime environments, undertaking a range of potential force protection, anti-terror and surveillance/reconnaissance missions.
The Protector was developed by Rafael for an anti-terrorism role, and is the only operational USV on the market. The system has already won its spurs on missions in the Persian Gulf and Mediterranean.
