China, Pakistan on anti-terror drill
China and Pakistan are holding joint military anti-terrorism exercises in Pakistan this week. Named “Friendship 2006,” the ten-day exercises are the first undertaken by Chinese troops outside their home country. The two nations conducted a joint exercise in China two years ago.
"The focus of the exercises will be to mutually benefit from each others experience in planning and conduct of anti-terrorist operations," the Pakistan military said. Pakistan is a lynchpin in the U.S. “war on terror,” while China is fighting separatist militants in its far northwest. In addition to counterterrorism cooperation, the two countries have extensive military ties.
