No way in: CakeBoxx doorless container could give container security a boost

Doorless container: next big thing for container security?

A doorless cargo container unveiled by CakeBoxx LLC could represent a major step forward for container security, the company says. The new system was unveiled at Intermodal, the world’s leading container tradeshow, last week in Hamburg, Germany. As it made the announcement, the company pledged to speed up its plans to get the boxes into production and onto the international freight market.

The company has initiated the patent process for its idea, which it says will prevent unauthorized access to freight containers anywhere in the global supply chain while still allowing legitimate port users around the world to access freight using commonly available container handling equipment.

"Approximately 90 percent of global trade is shipped via intermodal cargo containers, and any disruption of the steady flow of container transport would have a devastating impact on international economies," says CakeBoxx founder Garry Whyte. "Our CakeBoxx doorless cargo container will not only dramatically improve port security, but it will also greatly reduce the opportunity for theft, vandalism and smuggling, ultimately helping global companies improve efficiency and tackle some of the most serious issues facing cargo shipping worldwide."
