First network cam for buses, rail
Axis Communications has introduced the 209FD-R network camera, which it says is the first such system released specifically for use on buses and rail vehicles. The system transmits digital video over an IP network. It can also be connected to an onboard recording device via an Ethernet cable, and can transmit signals over the Internet using wide-range wireless networks.
The dome-mounted camera measures less than 1.6 inches high. The ‘ruggedized’ mount resists vibration, dust and humidity, all of which can be problems for systems deployed in mass transit applications.
Stockholm Transport, one of the leading bus operators in Europe, has placed the first order, for its entire fleet of more than 2,000 buses. It plans to install between five and six cameras in each bus starting in early 2007.
