Ports pick SaviTrak

Savi Networks has announced that its SaviTrak real-time information service has been extended to key terminal locations at the Port of Rotterdam, Europe's largest port and a major transportation gateway linked to more than 1,000 ports worldwide.

The SaviTrak system is intended to improve efficiency and security for shippers, port terminal operators and service providers by automatically tracking the location and security status of cargo containers. The installation of radio frequency identification (RFID) infrastructure linked to the SaviTrak information service helps the port maintain fast, efficient and secure operations. The port stated that the SaviTrak system, which is able to track and manage shipments throughout a global information network, will enable it to improve service to its shipping customers and trading partners.

The SaviTrak system is also in place at other European ports, including Felixstowe in the U.K. The company says that the installations are “particularly timely because they coincide with increasing recognition among shippers and government authorities that better cargo security measures like SaviTrak can also help improve the speed and efficiency of containerized cargo moving worldwide.”

Savi also recently announced that the port of Busan in South Korea, has recently implemented the SaviTrak system. Savi Networks is a joint venture between Savi Technology, a Lockheed Martin company, and Hutchison Port Holdings, the world's largest port operator.

In addition to increased security, the Port of Rotterdam expects supply-chain efficiencies from its implementation of SaviTrak
