BAA cracks down on Glasgow security
In the wake of a June 30 terrorist attack, airport operator BAA has beefed up security measures at Glasgow Airport to prevent a terrorist attack like the one that took place at the end of June. In the attack a jeep crashed into the main terminal’s entrance and burst into flames. In addition to stepped-up security checks on vehicles, concrete bollards have been set in place in the forecourt to prevent traffic traveling past the entrance, while the outer lane, where vehicles unload, is now off-limits to private cars: only public transportation, emergency vehicles, licensed taxis and shuttle buses may now use the lane. For now the inner lane remains completely closed to all traffic.
The airport is putting its automatic license plate recognition system to good use, ensuring that only authorized vehicles have access to sensitive areas.
