Reusable e-seals

Brantano Ltd., a Belgian footwear distributor, has selected Unisto’s Crypta 2K electronic seals for its truck fleet, which is operated by Frans Maas UK Ltd. The e-seals replace single-use plastic ones that the company felt were too easy to circumvent. The seals are fully protected against water, dirt or salt, which can damage and compromise mechanically based sealing systems.

The Crypta seals automatically generate a four-digit random seal number every time they are closed. The number is stored in memory and can be checked at any time by pressing a button. If the seal has been opened and re-closed a new number will appear, alerting security staff that someone has opened the container without authorization. Frans Maas says that its drivers in particular appreciate the new system, as it takes them out of the process of securing the load and also removes them as suspects when irregularities occur.
