QinetiQ kit "remote-ifies" disposal vehicles QinetiQ has unveiled a series of Applique Robotic Kits (ARKs) that enable users to convert conventional military vehicles for fully remote-control use in various hazardous applications. When converted, the vehicles can be controlled by operators who are up to 1 km away and not even necessarily in visual contact with the vehicle. Once kitted, the vehicles can be converted between manned and remote operation with a single switch, so that they can still be used to perform tasks as designed. The kits can be removed after use.QinetiQ cites potential applications including military operations, nuclear waste handling, chemical management, contaminated materials clearance and activities in unstable terrain.
