American Defense shields NYPD forensics

American Defense Systems Inc. has designed and manufactured a mobile ballistic protective glass shield for the New York Police Department's Forensic Investigations Division Firearms Analysis Section. The shield, six feet high and two and a half feet wide, will be used by NYPD detectives testing firearms that have been used in the commission of criminal acts. The NYPD is the largest police force in the U.S. and seizes thousands of firearms every year, many of them in poor condition and very dangerous to use. Several detectives have been seriously injured in the past when testing such weapons, prompting the NYPD to look for a transparent armor system to protect its personnel from stray rounds and ricochets.
