LA boosts security
The Port of Los Angeles has committed more than US$33 million to improve security in fiscal 2006/2007. The amount includes US$2.5 million for the design of a Joint Container Inspection Facility, US$8 million for a port-wide security surveillance system, and US$22.6 million in federally funded grants for port-wide security deterrents.
Specific security plans and programs include emergency plan updates, emergency response training and exercises, business recovery planning, a port-wide security identification and access control system and a waterside security surveillance system.
