Airport of the future testbed
Lockheed Martin Transportation and Security Solutions (TSS) has teamed with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to create the Airport of the Future, a technology testbed at Daytona Beach International Airport in Florida. The testbed will demonstrate how current and new technologies can be integrated to connect air traffic controllers, airport operators, security officials, airline dispatchers and other elements of airport infrastructure with more comprehensive data.
“What works today may not be effective tomorrow,” said Judy Marks, president of Lockheed Martin TSS. “When you add micro-jets to the mix by 2025, you need to fundamentally change the National Airspace System and our airports. When it comes to transportation innovation, we must look with a long eye toward the future.”
The first of the testbed’s four stages will focus on perimeter security and surface technology.
