Multi-robot controller released iRobot Corp. has released the first public photo of Sentinel, a project currently underway to develop a system that will allow a single operator to control and coordinate multiple semi-autonomous robots via a touchscreen computer interface. The project is funded by the U.S. Army’s Small Business Innovation and Research (SBIR) program, and while it is envisioned as a military system it will also be useful to first responders. Sentinel includes intelligent navigation capabilities that enables the robots to reach a preset destination independently, overcoming obstacles and other challenges on the way without requiring operator intervention. Sentinel will enable military personnel and first responders to conduct surveillance and mapping, securing dangerous areas without having to expose themselves to risk. |
