Bombardier’s global fleet database enables transit operators to establish patterns of equipment maintenance

Bombardier launches predictive tool

Bombardier Transportation has launched “Orbita,” a predictive maintenance tool with security applications. The company refers to the software as “The Future of Maintenance,” designed to help operators increase fleet utilization, improve reliability and availability, reduce failures and ultimately give riders a better journey experience.

Orbita leverages advances on onboard systems and global communications technology to provide real-time performance information directly from the vehicle to the operator or maintenance staff. Bombardier also enlisted aerospace experts to help with the design of the software. The system is already in use at First ScotRail in the U.K.
