FPED V, 2005: military systems are the star attractions, but most have civilian applications
Gearing up for FPED VI
Force Protection Equipment Demonstration VI (FPED VI) will be conducted at Stafford Regional Airport, Stafford, Virginia August 14-16, 2007. The biennial event is part of an ongoing initiative to engage industry in anti-terrorism/force protection (AT/FP) efforts. Organizers strongly urge anyone desiring to see the latest antiterrorism and force protection equipment in action to attend.
FPED events have a strongly military flavor, but many if not most of the systems and technologies on hand have real or potential application in the civil sphere. As TransSec readers will know, the event is unique in offering ‘live-fire’ testing of anti-terror and force protection products. Although this year’s event has moved from its previous venue at the U.S. Marine Corps base at Quantico, that site remains the home of the FPED demonstration activities.
FPED VI will feature more than 500 vendors and organizations, with over 3,000 individual items of force protection equipment. The equipment categories include blast and ballistics mitigation, night vision and optics, barriers, individual protective equipment, non-lethal weaponry, chemical/biological detection, protection and mitigation, explosive detection and cargo inspection devices, biometrics, and more.
Online registration will be available starting in January at www.fped6.org.
